It is the mid-1960s and 17-year-old Sally is living in leafy suburbia with her bourgeois mother, indulgent father and infuriating sister. Sally learns to love the desert kingdom and its people - and one person in particular - as she finds independence and a renewed self-confidence. Seven Bands of Gold: First Love is the debut novel of a born storyteller. Although by no means autobiographical, it would not ring with such authenticity and passion had not the author experienced some of the same agony and ecstasy as her heroine.
